ASUS Z7S WS MOTHERBOARD PRICE: 25000/- ($606)

The Asus Z7S WS features dual LGA771 sockets that support Intel Xeon 5000, 5100, and 5300 series processors of both the dual and quad-core varieties. The Z7S WS is built around the Intel 5400 and ESB2E chipset and supports 1600MHz / 1333MHz / 1066MHz / 800MHz front side bus speeds, it has six Fully-Buffered DDR2 DIMM slots, and a pair of Marvell 88E8056 Gigabit LAN jacks with teaming functionality. The Asus Z7S WS’ expansion slot configuration consists of two PCIe 2.0 x16 slots, one PCIe x16 slot with an x8 electrical connection, and single PCIe x1, PCI-X, and PCI 2.2 slots. The dual x16 PEG slots are a differentiating factor for the Z7S WS because Intel’s D5400XS only supports PCI Express 1.1. The D5400XS, however, is outfitted with NVIDIA PCI Express switches which enable SLI, something the Z7S WS lacks.

Also note that the Asus Z7S WS requires standard LGA771 heatsinks, whereas Intel’s Skulltrail mobo will work with a wider variety of LGA775 CPU coolers. We should also point out that the Z7S WS features a digital VRM, which significantly clears up the area around the CPU sockets and the PCB is “only” 12″ x 10.5″, which is much smaller than the DX5400XS.

The Z7S WS’ I/O port cluster is pictured above, as are the board’s various heatsinks and its built-in active RAM cooler. If you’ve ever worked with FB-DIMMs, you know they can get quite hot, so the active RAM cooler is a welcome addition to this motherboard in our opinion.

INTRODUCTION

Intel’s first 45nm processor, the Core 2 Extreme QX9650, launched last November and it was shortly followed with the launch of the QX9770 – a 200MHz faster, 1600MHz FSB CPU that came at an even higher price point. It was nothing more than a show of power from Intel, following AMD’s lacklustre Phenom launch, and it represented no value to almost all consumers.

Thankfully, Intel doesn’t just make super expensive 45nm CPUs and for those who aren’t interested in a quad-core, the E8x00 series of dual-core processors are without doubt an interesting proposition. The E7200 will be the first “value” model that Intel will launch, and for the most part, it’s kind of like a Q9300 split right down the middle. The difference is that while the Q9300 utilizes a 1333MHz FSB, the E7200 sticks to the “stock” option of the 65nm models, at 1066MHz FSB. This in itself is a big improvement, since the most comparable 65nm Dual-Core, the E4700, uses an 800MHz FSB.

The rumored launch date for the E7200 is next month, but that conflicts with the “Q2″ launch date that Intel’s press relations gave us. Similar to the 45nm Quad-Core launch, Intel likely still has many 65nm low-end Dual-Cores and would like to clear some of them out first, before officially launching the E7200 and others. So at this point, the release date is up in the air, but it will probably prove a lot sooner than later.

With its unique 9.5x multiplier, the E7200 hits a stock clock frequency of 2.53GHz and includes 3 MB of L2 cache, 1.5 MB per core. The 930 BF is with the 730 BF (we took the opportunity to test this identical 17” version at the same time), the first Samsung monitor with a 4 ms panel. This manufacturer´s intentions, however, weren´t always that clear. Unveiled last March at the CeBit, this panel was supposed to be released in a monitor named 930B before summer. In May they changed direction and said the 930B would be suspended, maybe even cancelled, and replaced by another monitor to come in August at best. When we had lost almost all hope, here´s the 930BF, in a version close to the one revealed in the CeBit. With the same black plastic body, only the base changed to being round instead of rectangular. Here comes the revolution!

The first thing to notice is the panel´s origin. Was it manufactured by Samsung or, to release the monitor on time, did they use an AU-Optronic panel? 30 seconds later thanks to our saw (just kidding), we found out it was a Samsung!

It´s a completely new panel. Dismantling the monitor also helps us to see more about the product´s overall quality, which in this case was quite mediocre. Inner pieces can be taken apart and nothing is fixed down, a real pleasure for testers like us who were Lego champions in our youth. We took the screen apart, took a few pictures of the interior and reassembled in exactly 30 seconds. The cables and metal protection were moveable, and all in all, we found this to be in harmony with the screen´s unrefined appearance. Despite the lowest response time, the new panel and the DVI interface, the 930BF is an entry level monitor. Finishing touches have nothing to do with the P series, but in the end this is for the best as this monitor is more affordable.

Mainstream 14.1″ Sony VAIO CR notebook series with black, blue, pink, and white shades are being replaced with VAIO C notebook series according to a leak from a Dutch online store.

But According to notebook Italia,it is going to replace with Sony VAIO FJ in the list of the Japanese producer in different colors like Sony VAIO CR11S/W will be white and Sony VAIO CR11S/P will have one ink rose (P, pink).

Sony VAIO CR Series will come with Santa Rosa platform, Intel GM965 Express Chipset with the Graphics Media Accelerator X3100, and Intel wireless IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n. Also they will be powered with Intel latest Core 2 Due processor with a minimum 1.8 GHz. As always the display will come with the X-Black technology but the keyboard will be trayless like vaio tz series.

According to electronista, Sony VAIO CR is shipping to Europe later this month. VAIO CR11 series will be priced at minimum 1,350 Euros ($1,820) after tax while equipped with the 1.8GHz processor, 2GB of memory, a 120GB hard drive, and an integrated webcam; the most expensive model in this series will include a 160GB drive and a Mobility Radeon HD 2300 with prices leveling at 1550 Euros ($2,090).

The TZ and CR Series are part of the new VAIO summer line-up which also includes the FZ Series, the SZ Series and the AR Series.

With today’s introduction of its new 780G chipset, AMD is finally enabling users to build an HTPC PC or multimedia computer for HDTV, HD-DVD or Blu-ray playback that doesn’t require an add-in graphics card (AMD already included HDCP support and an HDMI interface in its predecessor chipset, the 690G.) The Northbridge chip of the new 780G chipset also features an integrated Radeon HD3200 graphics unit that can decode any current high-definition video codec. As a result, CPU load is decreased to such a degree that even a humble AMD Sempron 3200+ is sufficient for HD video playback. Also, while Intel’s chipsets get more power-hungry with every generation, AMD’s newest design was designed with the goal of reducing power consumption.

The Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-SH2 formed the basis for the review platform.

The older 690G chipset was originally designed by ATI, and was essentially just rebranded with the AMD logo after the two companies merged. The new 780V and 780G chipsets unveiled today are the first chips to be designed since AMD’s acquisition of ATI, and can thus be considered “real” AMD chips.

AMD has every reason to be proud of its design, which is one of the best chipsets we have ever tested. It bests Intel’s chipsets in functionality, power consumption and production process. With the move to 55 nm, AMD was able to lower the power consumption of its chipset. Intel, on the other hand, still manufactures its G33 and G35 chipsets at 90 nm, resulting in a much higher thermal dissipation loss. The 780G chipset sets a new record for the lowest power consumption.

The most notable feature of the 780G chipset from AMD is the integrated Radeon HD 3200 graphics. The HD 3200 is DirectX 10 compliant and has enough power to run the cool bells and whistles of Vista like Aero and Flip 3D. The HD 3200 graphics are also able to playback Blu-ray video. There are several options with eh 780G for video output, my test board uses DVI, VGA and HDMI outs. AMD pointed out that board makers can opt to include Display Port as well.

In addition to the integrated HD 3200 graphics the chipset also supports one x16 PCI Express 2.0 slot for an external graphics card. Other features of the chipset include the ability to drive up to four displays in SurroundView mode, ATI Hybrid Graphics, and ATI PowerPlay. Hybrid Graphics allows you to add a discrete GPU into the x16 slot and combine the performance of the HD3200 integrated GPU with the discrete card for more performance. PowerPlay is a technology that helps to greatly reduce power consumption of the system.

Along with the new 780G Northbridge chipset, the SB700 Southbridge is also new and provides users with support for up to 12 USB 2.0 connections, 6 AHCI based SATA 3.0Gb/s ports with eSATA capability, HD audio, system power management and parallel ATA connectivity. The Southbridge also supports RAID configurations as well.

The AMD Athlon X2 4850e dual-core processor we are looking at runs at 2.5GHz and features 64K of L1 instructions and 64K of L1 data cache per core. The L2 cache is 512KB per core. The CPU is made using 65 nm DSL silicon-on-insulator technology and is packaged to use Socket AM2 mainboards. HyperTransport has one 16-bit/16-bit link at 2GHz. One integrated 128-bit dual-channel memory controller with up to 12.8 GB/sec bandwidth is used. Supported memory speeds are up to PC2 6400. The 4850e has approximately 221 million transistors and a die about 118 mm square.
